A lot of customers comment on the small waists on some vintage garments, especially from the 50′s when the shape had such emphasis on the waist. I always remind people that was the era way before sports bras, no bras, thongs and letting it all hang out. Ladies wore the proper foundation garments under those dresses to smooth out all the lumps, bulges, and wiggles all of us have unless you are about 16 years old.

The 60′s and 70′s “liberated” us from those restrictive garments. I know, I was there!! Nowadays I see a lot of ladies really unhappy how they look in certain items, and I tell them to go buy a nice little shaper that will do the same thing as the old fashioned girdle did but a little more comfy. Some of us with tummy bulge and ample behinds, not to mention muffin tops, wear the stuff every day and are plenty comfortable. The secret is to wear a larger size then the manufacturer recommends. You want to smooth out the lumps amd bumps not push it all up under your armpits!!!

For the vintage hard core gals , nothing will give you the correct shape for your vintage ware than vintage underpinniings. I just purchased a load of 50′s long line bras, “bullet” bras and full girdles with garters for stockings. Everything is all new old stock still with tags, never worn!! Customers are always begging for larger sizes and this new inventory is all larger sizes going up to 42 D. I still have many things for you smaller ladies also.

Vintage lingerie is a very interesting and popular subject. Check out the prices on ebay! A lot of these things are used for photo shoots in the style of the pin up model. Lots of women also enjoy collecting and wearing it .

P.S. A LOT of men are also nuts for the stuff and buy it here for their girlfriends and wives. If you want a little glamour in your life, maybe some seamed stockings and a garterbelt might be in your future!

Va Va Va Voom!

Kara is one of my customers who is also a model and comes to the shop for outfits for photo shoots. Everything Kara is wearing in this photo came from Vintage JoAnn except the headband and thong. Enough with the March snow!!!
I retaliated by getting out the ceramic easter bunnies and spring silk flowers out!
I’ve been shopping like crazy and folks have been bringing in things to sell.
I discovered some incredible 50′s leather stilletos in Columbia on Sun. and a treasure trove of spring hats full of floral petels and netting.
Tues. I was out looking again and came back with a 60′s leopard robe, several lovely silk slips in sherbert colors, summer dresses from several eras. and lots of new purses, and much more.
I’ve stocked many new Marilyn Monroe purses in different designs for you Marilyn lovers plus many new books on Bette Davis and Audrey Hepburn.
I will be bringing the Hawiian shirts out of storage this week.

OK, that’s enough winter!!!!!!!!!

No more salting the steps, and scraping ice off the car.

It’s Spring at Vintage JoAnn’s!! All the coats are discounted and I have been shopping madly for spring. Daffodil yellow, teal, spring green, violet and coral are popping up all over in the vanity fair slips and nighties I just stocked.

Every week I have been adding to the prom dress selection. This week I bought a teal blue strapless, cocktail length with satin bodice and very full layered, tulle skirt. The dress is newer but very retro in style!

Stop in and check out the new merchandise and I will be adding more every few days!!!! Come to think of it, I’m sick of looking at the remaining mink hats in the shop so they are also 40% off!

Snow days

Yesterday we were cleaning up after more snow and I didn’t officially open but I was here and would have let anyone in but no one braved the weather.
Today was better but the sidewalks were icy and treacherous.
A few brave souls did make it here, but bad weather really kills business!
It was a good day anyhow.
Ziggy just refuses to do his potty thing on the snow so he was a unhappy camper today in his crate.
I kept taking him out and when he finally went I praised him like he had just discovered the cure for cancer.
I have lots of lovely valentine stuff in right now, jewelry to teddies. One bustier in particular is red and white polka dot with a red tulle ruffle around the hem and 4 garters.

It’s a size large. So tell your guys to come and get your gift here or a gift certificate!
I have been buying formal dresses and my most recent purchase is a purple velvet, cocktail length dress. It’s sleevless with satin draping aroud the neckline and purple tulle petticoat built in. The hem is tacked up in one area with a little velvet bow. Size 8. Gorgeous.

I was closed over the holidays which I know was hard for my customers but I needed some rest.
I did spend a few days during the time I was closed to pack up Christmas things, clean out all the junk and clutter and restock with a lot of new merchandise.
I think the shop looks pretty nice.
There are some very nice Dior nightgowns I just put out as well as quite a few bed jackets and lovely nighties.
I have a few unusual purses in right now including one shaped like a silver stilleto shoe and one that looks like a silk covered Chinese take out box.
I will be concentrating on bringing in more spring things in now and coats are soon going to be heavily discounted.
It feels good to be starting a fresh new year!!!
