Updates on The Progress Around This Crazy Place

by JoAnn on 08/30/10 12:38 pm

I continue to clean out and sort.  What is making this so challanging is that Rick is busy refinishing floors and restoring plaster walls in what was the shop and will be our new living and dining rooms.  That means all the shop inventory has to go somewhere because the rooms upstairs that will be my new workspace are now full of the furnitue etc. that will be moving into the newly refurbished space.

In other words, there are piles everywhere! We are semi organized but I find this huge transformation stressful.  In the middle of all this I am trying to work on the web store, and mantain a sembance of order in our lives.

What kind of nut would get a puppy in the middle of all this?  ME, of course.  I can’t wait til Collette gets here, it will be a nice distraction.

Meanwhile, my back pain slows me down a lot ( the whole reason for going internet sales only)  but Julie and I got to Roots markt again where I scored on some fab yardage of vintage fabric for window treatments in my new living space.

Hilariously, folks keep calling to SELL me more stuff as it is oozing and exploding out of my hallways and rooms!  I’m way behind on returning messages, etc. Please be patient with me, friends. I don’t feel so great a portion of everyday.

Quick Preview Of 50’s Dresses

by JoAnn on 08/26/10 07:09 pm

I know I said I wasn’t going to buy anything for at least a month- well, I’m weak! I  purchased these dresses from a nice lady who popped in today unannounced.   All are 50’s dresses from dress shops in Philadelpia  and were owned by the same lady.

This is just a quick preview- they all need pressed and the blue cotton dress needs a zipper repair.  Almost all the other dresses are silk.

All are about a modern size 10, I have not taken measurements yet.  They are larger then they appear in the photos as I pinned them in the back to better fit the dressform.   I will get them listed as soon as I can.

When I get a more permanent photo area set up I’m going to use some live models such as Julie’s cute daughter M

eredith and her friends.

clean up continues!

by JoAnn

Just a few pictures so you can see what we are dealing with. When the shop cleanup is complete I will have so much more time and energy to list more items for sale on the web store.

Life goes on

by JoAnn

Well, the shop in my house is closed, and I shed a few tears.  I have been adding new things to the internet store and that will pick up as I get this ginormous MESS cleaned up. My computer and desk have been moved to my new office up stairs.  The shop area will become a parlor and dining room. This old victorian house is big and reworking the space is a major project.

Of course, Rick and I have to complicate things by deciding to refinish floors and add crown molding while we have rooms emptied out. I’ll post some pictures soon.  I am looking forward to having the living space downstairs, a nice office up stairs and storage for all the viintage goodies I sell.    I’s happening but it takes time. Give us a month and Rick and I can move a mountain.  I will continue to add things to the internet store.  Be patient, I have gorgeous coats, plus sizes and antique childrens cothing in storage!

We Did It! Aug. 18

by JoAnn on 08/18/10 09:25 pm

Wow!  Talk about overwhelming!  The Red Lion St. Fair was a roaring success.  The shop was packed and the tent I had set up ouside also did a brisk business.  So many friends and loyal cutomers showed up to wish me luck with the change to internet sales only.

Thank you, Julie, Becky, Ken, and the vintage spouse, Rick, you were all so much help. Especially since i couldn’t sleep the night before and was in a lot of pain.  So many vintage goodies left the shop! Sales were fabulous. It gives me a nice nest egg to advertise the new internet shop and buy new inventory.

I’m up to my fanny in chaos, breaking down the store and inventoring what’s left.  I started taking pictures again today which will be added to the site tomorrow of new items for sale.   I will be adding weekly.

I did cry a little when it was all over, this was my dream and baby, but I just can’t handle the hours any more with the scoliosis pain.

Oh—- I am getting a new puppy!!!!!!!!!  In about 4 weeks she will be able to leave her mama. A darling little girl poodle.  Ziggy loves other dogs and I can’t wait.   I’m going to be posting pictures soon.    Love to all!  JoAnn

Karbkings Mobtown Greaseball

by Rick on 08/09/10 06:27 pm

Hey Hon – Vintage JoAnn is proud to be a sponsor of this year’s Mobtown Greaseball in Dundalk , MD on Sept 25, 2010. Billed as “Maryland’s Only Car Kulture” event there will be a car show, PIN UP CONTEST, Trophies, PIN UP CONTEST, Food, PIN UP CONTEST, live bands, PIN UP CONTEST, and more.

I’m especially excited about (go ahead, try to guess…) the PIN UP CONTEST. Vintage JoAnn has been used to supply many an outfit for pin up style photography. Check out some of the photos in our Models section.

I’ve got to admit that I am not a motorhead and at first wondered about the organization’s name: Karbkings. It took me awhile to realize they were referring to carburetors and not those bad ingredients in all the food you love. The kind of food you’ll be able to enjoy while watching the PIN UP CONTEST for example.

For more information: Mobtown Greaseball Homepage
To request more info via email: MobtownGreaseball@gmail.com

8/22/10 Update – More info on the Pinup Contest here!

C’ya there!!

Big News At Vintage JoAnn

by JoAnn on 08/06/10 01:06 pm

I’ve been dreading this post for a while but time is running out.  Saturday August 14 is the last day the brick and morter store will be open.   We will be open that day from 9 am until 4pm.

Vintage JoAnn is NOT going out of business!!! We have been doing well and I’d like to thank all the supportive friends and loyal customers I’ve met!

Now that the internet store is up and running on VintageJoAnn.com that will be the primary outlet after the physical store closes.  My health issues have gotten to the point where this is the only way I can remain in this business that I love.   Actually the amount of work will be about the same but I will be able to work when I feel able, even during the night if I can’t sleep and rest when I’m flared up in a pain cycle.

My goal is that the internet store becomes just like the old store with hundreds of items at great prices.  I will be adding things weekly so the selections will be growing steadily.

I’m planning on expanding plus sizes in the future and also vintage and antique children’s clothing.

If you live locally you can still call and come over to try something on that you saw on the site.   Shipping is included in the price in the U.S.  Please email if you live out of the U.S.

I will still be living at the same address & will still be available for buying vintage items, it’s just that you will need to call first as I will no longer have set hours.   Even the big VJ sign will remain out front and I remain a member of the Red Lion Area Business Association. The sign will have my website and phone# instead of hours.

If you have any questions feel wecome to comment or email.  Best to all, JoAnn.
